Frequently Asked Questions
  • What is Soft Washing?
Soft Washing is a low pressure wash method used to safely treat and remove organic matter: mildew, bacteria, algae, fungus, moss and lichens in addition to dirt, grime and spiderwebs. This is the ONLY way to properly wash a number of surfaces such as vinyl sizing. Do not let someone wash your house using high pressure.
  • How often should I have my house washed?
Simple answer? It depends. Many factors influence how often your house will need to be washed. This includes amount of sunlight, proximity to water and nature, location (urban or rural), and so on. We generally recommend that a customer has their house washed annually. Grime Stoppers Wash Company is happy to offer discounts to reoccurring customers.
  • What does a house wash cost?
Our pricing structure is based on an hourly target which we calculate based on setup time, square footage and other factors such as type of job and how much cleaning is involved. You can generally expect a small house to start at $300. We also offer a multi-service discount.
  • How often should I have my gutters cleaned?
Having your gutters cleaned at least once a year is critical to keep them functioning as intended. For customers with overhanging trees, we often recommend twice a year.
  • What's the difference between pressure washing and power washing?
At face value, the terms "power washing" and "pressure washing" are synonymous and used interchangeably. On a technical level, power washing can be differentiated in that it refers to the use of hot water in addition to pressure.
  • Why is the North side of my house so dirty?
The North side of your house receives the least sunlight. Algae, mold and other organics form most easily in these dark and damp conditions.
  • What types of payment do you accept?
We accept cash, check and card. After the job is complete, we send you an invoice that includes a payment link or pay-by-check instructions. We prefer check or cash, as we are charged a 3% fee on every payment made by card.
  • What is PSI? What is GPM?
GPM and PSI are commonly mixed up. PSI stands for pounds per square inch. This is the measure of pressure exiting the system. We can modulate our pressure from less than 100 PSI up to 4,000 PSI. GPM stands for gallons per minute, or the flow rate out of the system. Most of our units put out approximately 8 GPM, two to five times the volume of a standard pressure washer. This allows us to work quickly and efficently.
  • Do you bring your own water?
We are capable of bringing up to 525 gallons of water on-site. However, unless otherwise discussed, it is assumed that we will run off of the customer's water. The primary purpose of our water tanks are to buffer the flow of water, as most spigots do not produce the volume necessary to continuously run our pressure washers.
  • Will pressure washing increase my water bill?
The City of Ames' water rate is $1.00 per 291.05 gallons. Based on the average residential ticket (house wash + an additional service), you should expect a $2.00-$5.00 increase on your water bill for the month.
  • Are you licensed and insured?
We are a licensed business in the state of Iowa and carry a generous insurance policy to protect our interests and our client's property. We recommend that any contractor you hire be licensed and insured.
  • Can you explain your Satisfaction Guarantee?
Customer satisfaction is Grime Stoppers #1 priority, and we will do our best to resolve any issues regarding quality of work. However, this must fall within reasonable expectations and is subject to limitations at Grime Stoppers Wash Company's discretion.
